I have lots of encouraging news this week thanks to BaseballMickey’s post in the Lounge…
Some restaurants in Downtown Disney have already reopened, but the big news is that select outdoor dining is back this Friday! Carthay Circle Lounge, Smokejumpers Grill, and Award Weiners are set to reopen in California Adventure by the end of this week.
Star Wars Trading Post will open Feb 19 in the old Rainforest Cafe building!
For Legacy Passholders, there will also be a limited-time magical extra opportunity for the new Star Wars Trading Post. Visit the Disneyland Legacy Passholder site for details.
Celebrate California Adventure’s 20th Birthday!
Can you believe it’s been 20 years? I remember riding the Monorail while they were building DCA and the Grand Californian and thinking how crazy it was that they were turning the old parking lot into a brand new world.
I think we stayed at the Grand Californian during opening week (because of the crazy AP rates!). We’d been watching construction for such a long time, and couldn’t wait to stay in this awesome-looking hotel that was right in the middle of the new park and all the action!
I remember eating at one of the restaurants in Downtown Disney and looking out in awe at everything they had built–I felt so lucky to have access to it as a passholder. I’ve seen several documentaries and articles talking about how Disney botched the first version, but we did not think that at all–it was PERFECT and we were beyond grateful to have this much cool stuff in our backyard (well, 35 minutes away at the time).
I was so excited for my kids, that they would get to experience this incredible new land–one resort that had everything–a legendary theme park + a brand new park + integrated hotels + its own shopping district–and it was all blended nicely inside one cozy little bubble.
My kids were fortunate enough to grow up during this golden age of being a passholder, which is why DCA holds such a special place in their hearts. Our family has made so many fanstastic memories over the years thanks to this brave expansion 20 years ago.
Here’s to 20 more years of DCA and more expansions (and passholder deals) in the future!
