Flavors of Fantasyland: Disney Dining Tips:

This week, I added a guide to the apps called “How To Beat Everyone To That Hard-To-Get Disney Dining Reservation.”

Even though Kate can find tough reservations, you still need to complete the reservation on Disney’s site.

TIP: Pre-fill your Disney login and add your credit card to your Disney account ahead of time. You can use a password manager to pre-fill you login info (Disney makes you login each time) so you can move through their reservation forms quickly.

Find more tips here or access the info inside MouseWait for Disneyland or Disney World!

VOYAGEERS: Finding Hidden Treasures in the Parks

In the spirit of the VOYAGEERS (available on Amazon), I’m including an intriguing historical fact (a.k.a Disney lore) about the Parks each week!

It was on this bench in Griffith Park where Walt Disney used to sit and watch his daughters, Diane and Sharon, ride the merry-go-round. As he sat there, he envisioned a place where parents and children could enjoy themselves together, rather than just observing from the sidelines.

Disney later explained, “Disneyland really began when my two daughters were very young. Saturday was always Daddy’s Day, and I would take them to the merry-go-round and sit on a bench eating peanuts while they rode. And sitting there alone, I felt there should be something built, some kind of family park, where parents and children could have fun together.”

This idea eventually led to the creation of Disneyland, the first theme park of its kind, which opened on July 17, 1955, in Anaheim, California. The Griffith Park bench was relocated to the original Disneyland Park and can now be found in the pre-show area of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.

The bench is part of the Disneyland Story exhibit, which also showcases a carousel horse from the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round, a scale model of Disneyland as it appeared on opening day, and other valuable artifacts and memorabilia related to the park’s history.

I searched extensively for information on how the bench made its way to Disneyland, but I couldn’t find any solid facts. If you happen to know, please share!

The Griffith Park bench symbolizes Walt Disney’s vision, imagination, and his love for his family. It serves as a reminder of how a simple moment of inspiration can lead to remarkable achievements. It also pays tribute to the man who started it all and famously said, “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”
